Hewitt Oaks Events: Making Magic Under the Lowcountry Stars

It’s wedding season in the Lowcountry, and brides and grooms from across the nation are flocking to our corner of the world in droves to create magical moments with the most stunning of backdrops. I can’t say I blame them! The Lowcountry lends itself perfectly to such occasions, with its natural charm and warm starlit nights. One of the most stunning locations lies right beneath our noses here in Bluffton; the inimitable Hewitt Oaks. So many beautiful love stories have begun under the mighty live oaks in this gorgeous event space.

I had the pleasure of attending a wedding in this setting not long ago. Before that moment, much to my chagrin, I did not realize that Hewitt Oaks existed. It is tucked back off of May River Road in Bluffton, but has the feel of approaching a country farm as you wind up the long drive to the venue.

In a word, Hewitt Oaks is ethereal. It is a combination of sprawling manicured fields and effortless class.

Barn style buildings bring rustic-chic charm and an easy, relaxed vibe to any occasion, while the wispy Live Oaks drenched in moss, wildflower gardens and stone cobbled paths bring a feel of the English countryside to the Lowcountry.

This venue is a perfectly curated blank slate, built to accommodate the most creative or imaginative vision its clients may dream up. The talented staff has the ability to transform this space into a versatile array of designs that range from weddings to business events. I have perused the photos of a variety of events held here and am blown away by how very different each one appears in style with the use of the very same backdrop, ranging from modern chic to rustic flair.

For the betrothed, there are on-site guest cabins lining the meadows, perfect for wedding glam sessions and memorable first-look moments. The cabins, complete with room service, also provide the perfect on-site getaway for the newlyweds to whisk away into the night for wardrobe changes, or to steal a moment and relish in their union without ever stepping foot off property. It is a full service venue that checks all of the boxes and allows for pure, seamless and stress free enjoyment from start to finish.

The staff is hyper-focused on events, as they are in the sole business of creating lasting, beautiful memories for each of their clients and meeting their unique needs.

Amazing weddings are not their only specialty. Hewitt Oaks is a year round venue, hosting a range of fun and whimsical events, such as Ladies Night Out, Summer Soirees, Baking Camps, Chef’s Tables, Dinner Theaters and mix and mingle events complete with local vendors.

They also produce grand and gorgeous holiday celebrations, company events and launch parties for any size needs. You name it, they will entertain and execute it with style, with staffed event planners and an arsenal of tasteful décor on hand. Retreats are also available, which include access to the on-site cabins as lodging options.

All events have extensive options for expertly prepared meals and menus created by in-house chefs, flower arrangements and table décor to make it a one stop venue. Events come complete with a fully staffed team for setup and breakdown as well, which is included in the costs. There is simplicity in the details of their full-service offering that any party planner might appreciate. Their thoughtful packages equate to less time planning and delegating, and more time enjoying.

I must also mention one of my very favorite features of this venue. They offer proper afternoon high tea event packages at Hewitt Oaks, complete with fine china teapots, cups and dainty table décor, as well as an assortment of tea sandwiches, pastries and desserts served on decorative platters and cascading towers. I am such a fan of honoring civilized traditions and, to me, this is the epitome of class and enjoyment. It just seems to capture the essence and elegance of the South.

I simply love coming across local businesses that are carving their own unique path and doing things just right. I felt compelled to share this post because I was in awe of the space and the special day that was created for my dear friends on their wedding day.

Throughout this event, I could see the thought and detail that went into creating a gorgeous memory and the care given in tending to guests’ needs as the night carried on. There wasn’t a moment we felt we were unattended to or overlooked as one of many guests. The more I researched the venue and learned what they are all about, the more compelled I felt to give them some recognition for their vision and efforts to bring magical, traditional events to our community.

If you are currently dreaming up an event of your own, indoor ballrooms and grand spaces are available, complete with cozy fireplaces and rustic shiplap décor for the cooler months. They even have mantles to adorn with your own photos and keepsakes. These spaces give a warm and inviting vibe and also set up perfectly for happy hour or pre-function events.

The outside space is truly sensational. For the wedding that I attended, an ample checkered dance floor was perched atop the lawn and a tent lined with twinkle lights and chandeliers covered and draped the gold and white trimmed table décor, transforming it into what I would describe as a mystical fairyland. It was a dream come true and the perfect backdrop for snapping treasured photos.

If you are considering a wedding in the Lowcountry, or any special event for that matter, I would highly recommend reaching out to Hewitt Oaks and supporting this wonderful local treasure for your big day.

About Hewitt Oaks:

A Heritage of High-Class Hospitality

Hewitt Oaks was founded by Christopher and Bethany Hewitt in 2018, but its story really began in 2002 when Bethany founded Southern Graces. It all started with a small party for a friend and grew into a full-service event planning, design, and catering company with a passion and talent for bringing people together through fabulous food, flowers, and experiences.

In 2005, Bethany Boles went to an international catering conference in Las Vegas and met a very dapper gentleman chef, Christopher Hewitt. The miles between Tennessee and NYC couldn’t keep these two apart. After two years and plenty of trips back and forth, this dynamic couple was engaged and well on their way to the next level in both their personal and professional lives.

In 2008, Executive Chef Christopher Hewitt, now Bethany’s husband, joined the Southern Graces team. They’ve made the Lowcountry their home and together have created some of the Southeast’s most spectacular events, including the reception for The Lord Bishop of London, the CMT Awards, and the launch of the Porsche 911.
